3 UG Medical Entrance Exams You must-know

No matter how many hardships you need to go through, the medical stream is one of the best career-oriented streams. That’s the reason masses now prefer it as their career. The medical entrance exam efficiently opens a wide range of career opportunities for the aspirants. 

There are numerous colleges and universities in India that offer exemplary education in the medical sector. To get admission to these colleges, the students are required to qualify for the medical entrance examinations. Most of these entrance exams are popular amongst the students as they are organized at the national, university, or state level. Let’s list out seven of the top-level exams that’ll help you get admission in esteemed universities and colleges: 

National Entrance cum Eligibility Test (NEET) 

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) organizes NEET. It’s one of the toughest and renowned medical entrance exam in India. NEET is usually held once a year in May. The exam is held on a national basis to fill the medical seats of all top-level colleges and universities of the country. 

The paper pattern consists of 180 multiple choice questions, with a time of three hours. The paper is segregated into three sections of chemistry, biology, and physics. 

All India Institute of Medical Sciences ( AIIMS MBBS) 

As the name suggests, the exam is organized by AIIMS, New Delhi. AIIMS MBBS is also generally scheduled in May every year. It is an entry-level exam for getting admission to undergraduate medical institutes across India. However, students mostly aim to get one of the 800 seats available in nine AIIMS colleges around the country. 

The paper is a computer-based entrance test with 3 hours and 30 minutes as the exam time. The exam consists of 200 objective type questions with only one correct answer. With more than 3 lakh aspirants applying each year, the AIIMS MBBS exam is conducted in two shifts; Morning and Afternoon.  

Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research Medical Entrance Exam (JIPMER MBBS) 

One of the most prestigious institutes in medical education, JIPMER, Puducherry organizes this exam for a total of 200 seats in its two campuses (Puducherry(150) and Karaikal (50)).  The exam is conducted offline, and the medium of paper is English. There are a total of 200 objective type questions in the paper with only one appropriate answer. The exam does not possess any negative marking. 

Foreign Medical Graduate Screening Exam (FMGE) is one more national level screening test for medical graduates. It’s conducted twice a year in June and December. The examination is a computer-based test and consists of 300 questions.
