5 reasons why pursuing MBA after B.Tech makes perfect sense

One of the common confusions students go through after finishing their engineering or B.Tech degree is – should they go for an MBA degree after graduation or not? So, let’s investigate and try finding out an answer for you.
So, the skills that you have developed over these years of your engineering degree are different from what is required to succeed as a manager in an MNC or in your own future business venture. And, to blend your technical knowledge with managerial and entrepreneurial skills, it makes good sense to upskill by enrolling into an MBA program.

Also, even if you did not think of pursuing an MBA right after your B.Tech, you can do it after gaining some experience as a corporate professional to maximize learning as well as for career advancement.

“There is an acute need for people who understand both business and technology”
-Mr. Callahan,
Head of technology and operations, Citigroup
Let’s discuss some of the reasons that tell why MBA after B.Tech makes sense:

1. To climb the career ladder
In this fast-paced business world, corporates believe that the skills that they desire for their future managers comes from a combination of a technical and management degree. With a technical background, engineers can opt for MBA and thus fast-track their career to supervisory and even visionary roles. This wouldn’t be easy for an engineer without any management knowledge.

2. To develop managerial skills
Sure, you have a deep understanding of the technical side of your work, since you have had all the required practice with technology, science, and mathematical subjects. However, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) makes you ready for the real-world problems out there. You pick up basics of communication, marketing, human resource, time management, leadership and more. These skills are critical for anyone who plays managerial roles in his job.

3. To demand higher salary
Though salaries depend on many factors, graduates with engineering and MBA both usually get better salary offers than an engineer without an MBA. This clearly points to the fact that employers also weigh engineers with a management specialization higher. So, to draw higher amount of salaries, get yourself into a reputed MBA program.

4. To get into entrepreneurship
For many engineers turning to be would-be entrepreneurs, getting MBA qualification makes all the sense. It develops a holistic perspective to business and trains you to solve macro level problems. By getting into an MBA program, you are allowing yourself to be surrounded by a network of different people, widening your horizons, which can help you gain contacts and ponder over new ideas, that may help your business today and later.

5. To develop a better personality
B-school focuses a lot on presentations, group discussions, team projects, and industry visits. This helps in developing confidence, learning professional etiquette, discipline and well-roundedness. These skills are important whether you are working in a company or going to setup your own business.

Clearly, the flair and competence that MBA programs from renowned colleges bring often make it a right choice for the engineering graduates.
